“A Total Texture Junkie” is a good way to describe me I really enjoy spending time experimenting with all sorts of mediums… and techniques.
You can get lots of exciting and interesting effects creating mixed media artworks… but you must keep two things in mind ”preparation and Products”.
Over the years I have used all sorts of products and brands of mediums in the market place, and through experimenting with different products I have found my favourites!
So I thought I would share them with you, so you to can have some fun creating works of art that will last!
I absolutley LOVE “Golden” most of my mediums, paints and grounds that I use are from the “Golden” range of products. www.goldenpaints.com
Preparation – Gac 100 this is a great product to apply to your substrate b4 applying your gesso it gives a great adhesion between the paint and the substrate.
The paints are beautiful to use they just glide on your artwork and the colours are so rich and outstanding ! their is an extensive range in there paint products, such as fluid paints, metallic, interference colours and open acrylics very unique ( slower drying acrylics likened to oil). I often use the interference colours within my artwork which gives my work another dimension!
Acrylic Glazing Liquid(gloss) This is a great product with multiple purposes it is a water based acrylic medium which helps to extend the open time of acrylic colours.
Gel Mediums I like to use - Soft Gloss Gel, Clear Tar Gel, Course Pumice Gel and Fine Pumice Gel and self leveling gel.
Pastes my favourite one is the Light Molding Paste… it is so light and has a lovely finish to it! you must try it!
Acrylic Ground for Pastels – This product is great to use to prepare your substrate when mixing painting and pastels it gives the substrate a tooth similar to papers designed just for chalk and pastels. Can be thinned with water.

My favourite product of pebeo would have to be their Vernis Brillant Gloss Varnish this product is fantastic and can be mixed in with your paint, this product is Non Yellowing and is INCREDIBLY TRANSPARENT! if you have always wanted to try resin then try this product!
Pebeo Gesso – great
Pebeo – Acrylic Black Mica Mortar – this is another beautiful product, great for using for rocks, cliffs or roads etc.. it has a beautiful sparkle to it when it cures.
Crackles – This is a really fun medium to apply to your artworks!
There are so many different crackles out there in the market, Golden have a Crackle Paste … that looks like fun… mmm that is one product I need to get!
Crackle - Crackle Medium – Jo Sonja’s Brand, which you paint over your top coat and watch it crackle as it dries.
Decor Crackel - Jo Sonja’s Brand, which is a sandwich crackle, applied within two layers of paint and watch the bottom layer of paint show through the crackle!
This is just a small selection of different gels and mediums that I love to use… There are so many it would take forever to put on here. I hope you have learnt a little from this and can give you a little more confidence when shopping at your art shop!
